Join Us for this Single - Morning, Dual Session Workshop Session 1: Understanding Early Childhood Attachment, Trauma, and Development (8:00 - 9:00am) Description: Participants learn fundamental concepts related to child and youth development, attachment, and trauma. Topics include: Developmental milestones, parenting tips for different age stages, parent-child attachment and its role in development, types of attachment and attachment disorders, attachment and bonding assessments, impacts of trauma in key developmental years. Learning objectives: be able to access information on the gross motor, fine motor, and language development milestones for children ages 0 to 5. be able to access information on normal development for children and adolescents ages 6 to 19. understand what parent-child attachment is, the four major types of attachment, and basic indicators of each type. understand the critical role of attachment in a child’s cognitive, physical, and emotional development. be aware of attachment disorders and the importance of an attachment assessment. Be aware of the impacts of trauma on the mind, body, and emotional development in early childhood. Session 2: Foundation of Trauma Informed Care (9:00am - 12:00pm) Description: This foundational presentation will educate participants on the ways unresolved trauma can impact a child and adolescents’ brain, their physical body, and ultimately their behavior. Participants will walk away with a better understanding of how decision-making processes in children, adolescents, and adults can change when threats to their safety and well-being are present in their life. Discussion will include types of trauma, resiliency, connections in the brain, triggers, trauma reactive behavior, and long-term impacts that traumatized individuals may face. Learning Objectives Review the types of trauma that can occur in individual’s lives. Define resiliency and identify how resiliency can change the impact trauma has on individuals. Identify how trauma impacts the brain and body, and how this impact can vary the ability to utilize various skills needed for success in all settings. Identify common triggers that can result in trauma reactive behavior. Discuss the long-term impacts that individuals with unresolved trauma can face. Understand the Social Discipline Window and recognize biases and judgements that impact decision making. Identify specific ways to approach an individual in need to increase safety and security.
