POSITION: CTE Curriculum and Instruction Support Specialist 

  • 190 Day Calendar (+5 Flex Summer Work Days)

The Curriculum and Instruction Support Specialist assists and supports school district personnel in the design, development and implementation of CTE curriculum and instructional methodologies through ongoing coaching and professional development. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

Essential duties must be performed on-site. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinate planning, designing, and development of course content and assessments.
  • Develop content and assessments that meet district and state standards.
  • Collaborate with district leaders, community partners, and the business community to develop relevant educational programs.
  • Develop and implement content-specific individual, small group, and whole group professional development.
  • Guide and support teachers in the implementation of content-specific curriculum implementation.
  • Collaborate with district leaders to conduct implementation studies.
  • Review course and content data, making recommendations regarding revisions.
  • Identify, review, and curate externally produced content and resources.
  • Research new and innovative curriculum and instruction practices.
  • Stay current with curricular trends and standards changes by maintaining professional memberships, attending conferences.
  • Work with teachers in assessing problem areas in curriculum and in finding and implementing appropriate solutions.
  • Collaborate with district staff in coordinating curriculum documents and resources in the district’s curriculum repository.
  • Develop, edit, and monitor all curriculum documents and resources.
  • Provide coaching through modeling, co-planning, and co-teaching as needed.
  • Prepare needed reports as requested by the CTE Coordinator and Teaching and Learning Department.
  • Support curriculum development, revision, and implementation as requested.
  • Support teachers' understanding of the implementation of CTE curriculum and resources through coaching and professional development.
  • Provide and demonstrate best practices in teaching for assigned curricular area on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide teaching demonstrations in instruction and assessment as needed.
  • Work strategically with teachers in planning, monitoring and assessing student learning and reflecting on their teaching.
  • Observe and coach teachers in effective instructional practices daily as needed.
  • Conduct pre- and post conferences with teachers, including constructive feedback.
  • Plan and facilitate team meetings, professional study groups, and staff development sessions as needed.
  • Collaborate with mentor teachers in support of new teachers.
  • Assist the building principal in developing and implementing a plan for professional development.
  • Communicate and coordinate cluster visits with the building principal.
  • Spotlight student work and share achievement with all stakeholders on a routine basis.
  • Support instruction and learning through the use of technology on an ongoing basis.
  • Actively participate in collaborative problem solving and reflective practice which includes but is not limited to professional study groups, peer observations, grade level planning, and weekly team meetings.
  • Complete paperwork accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Participate in ongoing professional growth and training.
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidentiality.
  • Collaboratively leads the Comprehensive Learning Needs Assessment (CLNA).
  • Report to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in education from a four-year accredited college or university
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction
  • Required: Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Required: Valid Iowa teaching license with CTE or related endorsement.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

This position does not supervise other employees. 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 

 

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

Knowledge in K-12 curriculum and various effective professional development programs; ability to effectively communicate knowledge and skills to other certificated staff; skills to manage the work, set priorities, and evaluate progress toward outcomes; interpersonal skills necessary to work cooperatively and effectively with individuals and groups. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs. Experience working in curriculum review, design or implementation. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, students, parents and administration. Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication. Advanced presentation skills. Experience working in culturally diverse educational settings. Experience and understanding of instructional applications using multiple mediums including technology. Knowledge of child growth and development and how it affects learning. Evidence of ongoing professional growth. Experience in teaching and learning processes. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others in a group or team environment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, reach forward and above the head 0 - 12 inches and on occasion up to 18 inches. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 0 - 12 feet and up to 20 feet such as boxes of books and AV equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision. The employee regularly interacts with students, staff and parents in addition to meeting multiple demands and deadlines from several people.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet and work is performed indoors. The employee may be required to travel from building to building in varying weather conditions.
