We invest in more than 100 local nonprofit agencies and provide direct services, such as 211 and JAG Nebraska, to address social and economic disparities and meet community members’ essential needs. As needs have continually evolved over the years, we have focused resources and expanded the network of organizations we support – while also mobilizing people and resources in times of economic crisis, health emergencies, and natural disasters. 

The Payroll and Benefits Manager plays a vital role in ensuring our team members are paid accurately and on time, and that they receive the best benefits possible. Responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll for all employees, while administering employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, and retirement plans. Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations governing payroll and benefits administration and maintains accurate employee records in HRIS and other databases. Serves as the main point of contact for all things data.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, grant codes, and other deductions. 
  • Processes HSA, FSA Medical, and FSA Dependent Care. 
  • Manages and administers the organization's benefits (including retirement, health insurance, STD, LTD, Group Term Life insurance, COBRA, and more) for new, current, and terminating employees.  
  • Accountable for creating and administering reports, dashboards, and analytics utilizing workforce demographic and transactional data from HRIS.
  • Processes employee data to track leave, wages, and working hours.
  • Enrolls new hires and enters information including contact details, salary information, and HRIS access.
  • Collects necessary data for EEO-1 reporting.
  • Generates ad-hoc reports (turnover, hiring costs, and benefits).
  • Monitors and manages unemployment claims. 
  • Assists with maintaining accurate employee records, such as electronic personnel and benefit files. 
·         Manages out-processing and documentation for terminated employees. 
·         Creates and runs detailed reports for bi-weekly payroll and benefit reporting, external and internal compliance, and annual audits. 
  • Collaborates with HR and other departments to ensure a seamless employee experience, and stays up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging trends in payroll and benefits.
  • Designs user-friendly processes, guidelines, and documentation.
·         Oversees end-of-year ACA and W-2 reporting.  
  • Assists with the planning and execution of employee engagement activities. 
  • Assists with other duties as deemed necessary.
 
Required Skills and Abilities:  
·         Demonstrated ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information.
·         Ability to promote efficiencies through the creation of effective HR policies and processes.
·         Strong knowledge and experience using human resource management systems (HRIS). 
·         Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes. 
·         Excellent communication and customer service skills to help answer employee inquiries and build strong relationships with colleagues. 
·         Strong drive and the ability to self-motivate in the face of multiple priorities while managing time efficiently. 
·         Must be analytical, organized, and detail-oriented with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities 
·         Continuous improvement mindset and a passion for measuring results through data and metrics. 
  • English proficiency sufficient for communication with supervisors, co-workers, clients, and stakeholders.  
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including Excel; experience with HRIS and benefits databases. 
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing, and compliance requirements affecting employee benefits programs, including the EEO-1, ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation, Medicare, and Social Security and DOL requirements. 
  • Maintain a valid state driver's license.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities:  
This job does not have supervisory responsibilities. 
 
Education and/or Experience:  
  • Bachelor's degree (Required) in human resource management or related field 
  • 5-7 years related experience and/or training in benefits administration, payroll, and human resources analytics
  • Strong knowledge of HRIS system (Paycor preferred)
 
Physical Requirements:  
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • Regularly reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.   
  • Occasionally required to walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
