As Vice President of Grants and Initiatives, Matthew Henkes oversees both grants management and the programmatic work of the Iowa West Foundation. Matthew is responsible for leading how the foundation evaluates its work, considers equity through its grant-making, and helps grantees build their capacity. Additionally, he manages the placemaking portfolio, including grants and initiatives in the areas of community development, beautification, recreation, arts/culture, and housing.
Matthew has an MPA from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and an MA in international economics and international relations (conflict management focus) from SAIS at Johns Hopkins. He has worked in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Matthew was named as one of Midlands Business Journal’s 2018 40 under 40 in the Omaha metro area.
